How to prevent bad breath?

What could be more embarrassing than someone letting you know you have bad breath

In this article, we will see how to know if you have bad breath, what causes it, how to treat it and how to prevent it.

How do I know if I have bad breath?

There are many small signs that you may have bad breath. Have you noticed people moving away from you when you start talking? Do people often offer you gums or mints?

If you think you have bad breath, there is a simple test you can do. Just lick the inside of your wrist and sniff - if it smells bad, you can be pretty sure your breath is bad too.

Or ask a really good friend to be absolutely honest with you; but make sure he or she is a true friend.

What causes bad breath?

Bad breath is a very common problem and there are many different causes.

Persistent bad breath is usually caused by foul-smelling gases released by bacteria that cover your teeth, gums and tongue.

Strong foods like garlic, coffee and onions can make the problem worse. So, it's very important to brush your teeth with Y-Brush. It will help keep your breath fresh.

Bacteria on our teeth and gums (called "plaque") also cause gum disease and tooth decay. One of the warning signs of gum disease is that you always have bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth.

Again, your dentist will be able to see and treat the problem during your checkups. The earlier the problems are detected, the more effective the treatment will be.

What are the other causes of bad breath?

Bad breath can also be caused by certain medical conditions, salivary gland problems or by breathing continuously through your mouth instead of your nose. Dry mouth (xerostomia) is a condition that means your mouth produces less saliva. This causes a buildup of bacteria in your mouth and bad breath. Older people may produce less saliva, which causes other problems. If you suffer from dry mouth, again, your dentist is your best ally.

Can I avoid bad breath?

To keep your breath fresh, you need to get rid of any gum disease and keep your mouth clean and fresh.

If you have bad breath, try to keep a diary of all the foods you eat and list any medications you take. Take this journal to your dentist, who may be able to suggest ways to solve the problem.

● Brush your teeth and gums before bed and at least once a day with a fluoride toothpaste,

● Remember to brush your tongue as well or use a tongue scraper. Reduce the frequency with which you consume sugary foods and drinks,

● Clean between your teeth with interdental brushes or floss at least once a day,

● Use a mouthwash - some contain antibacterial agents that may kill the bacteria that make your breath unpleasant.

If you continue to suffer from bad breath, go to the dentist to make sure the mouthwash isn't covering up a more serious underlying problem.

Chew sugar-free gum - it helps your mouth produce saliva and keeps it from drying out. A dry mouth can lead to bad breath.
